Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.9/100, a mean average of 70.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.3.

I'm struggling to work out just why this doesn't have the magic of their work 30-35 year prior. So McCulloch's voice is not as good as he aged. Every song sounds the same when before there was variety. The sound is fuzzy and dense when before there was space. But mainly it's the song structure with the over reliance on repeated lyrical phrases that are not profound that annoy me. "It's cold in Constantinople' or 'soldiers on the march leaving their trenches now'.
Pretty impressive for a 35 year old band thought to be dead and buried !!
Solid and consistent throughout the entire album. Recommended
The opener and "Holy Moses" are the highlights, but "Meteorites" doesn't disappoint after a stronger-than-expected start. A surprisingly consistent effort from the Bunnymen that is more enjoyable than the overrated Ocean Rain.
This is a return to the epic, sweeping, shimmering Bunnymen of the 80s. Combined with McCulloch's introspective lyrics, this is one of their finest albums.
