Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.8/100, a mean average of 70.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.8.

Just to add another comment, I have it on record now and it's very nice sounding, good production with decent-ish bass, even amongst the pops n crackles. Definitely elevated listening via original record.
This is like reggae blues, better than the 72 average..
heavy base guitar horns reggae and a little more
Listening again to this, it is still enjoyable but it does seem long, bit filler and the production is too thin. The remastered version should have rectified that, not enough in the bottom end really. I do like the overall sound but the lack of kick and bass doesn't propel the instrumentals like they should when there's not the song to cover up the flaw. Still good though and light years better than later stuff.
Started off fun, but seemed to go on forever.
Brilliant debut album by UB40, when they still had an edge. It really has got that streetwise feel to it. Great songs too, especially, food for thought, Tyler, and, burden of shame. Great stuff, how's your job search going?
Ok it's ub40 but it's not the pop act version. Yes ok they went rubbish but this is great stuff.

Often overlooked because of their later stuff, this is a top album.
This must be one of the most underrated albums of all time. Apart from Bob Marley, I had never been that struck on reggae before I bought this album. 'Signing off' is like nothing else in my collection. There is a lot of saxophone on it, which I've not really heard on other reggae records. The production is much better than any other reggae I've heard, and the lyrics are stronger and more political than UB40's later work. There was even a bonus 3 track 12 inch single with the vinyl record.
