Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.3/100, a mean average of 74.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.2.

9.5/10. Japandroids peaked early - before they became self-important and Brian King lost his ability to sing live with any passion or diversity - but man did they peak. Heart Sweats is an awful song but every other track here is a sunny, emotional nostalgia trip. I Quit Girls is the perfect closer and sounds like a sunset. It's easy to shit on this band but if you're open to getting lost in fuzzy, lo-fi heaven that boasts fucking SINCERITY over anything else - Post-Nothing is for you (and mostly Celebration Rock, and not really Near to the Wild Heart of Life).
What happened here? Two guys screaming bland melodies out of key, while the overbearing, over-distorted guitars wail away at my sanity. No thanks. And the lyricism isn't even remotely interesting or even well written. At least it was only 35 minutes. 3/10.
One of my favorite records of all time. I love the simplicity of the record. Some of the songs lyrics are made up of only a few lines, but they're very powerful ones. I love all the songs here except Crazy Forever (just a bit too long), but its still pretty good. They play fast and loud and god damn its fun as hell. The last song "I Quit Girls" might be my favorite. I can't tell whether its a happy or sad song, but it hits me hard every time.
I've had a very difficult time deciding which Japandroids album I prefer. Still working on that, but I will say that I feel this album has the higher highs while Celebration Rock stays the most consistent. Sovereignty just makes me happy.
Hello Youth
Prefer this over Celebration Rock, its the songs so wonderfully crafted in a lofi setting that just gets me
Crazy/Forever and Wet Hair trump most indie bands alone
Probably a better overall album than Celebration Rock. The main difference is that the latter has a much more energetic sweep that is impossible to resist, making it a better party record. This is the Japandroids record to listen to alone in your room. Great lyrics. Hope to follow this band for many years to come.
Glad I decided to check out this one, has a bit more variety than Celebration Rock. Both very good albums, i'll be following them closely from now on.
Wasn't expecting the shoegaze, I'll tell you that.
not sure what's so different about this track compared to no singles, but this album is incredible on every level
