Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.3/100, a mean average of 72.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.8.

The opening 7 tracks play like an Erasure Greatest Hits package, while the rest is forgettable. The extra track of the Phil Spector tune "River Deep, Mountain High" is especially dreadful.
I bought "The Innocents" on tape in 1988 and had no inspiration to get it on CD for many years. It was one of the last big synth pop albums before techno & dance defined a new era of electronic music in the 90s with faster beats and more innovation. The sound of Erasure seemed dated just a few years after release with so much more progressive electronic music in very different styles. But when I finally bought the CD 30 years later I was really surprised how many good songs "The Innocents" has to offer. You need some time to get used to this very unique sound of Erasure but I found only one really weak song (Sixty-Five-Thousand). The CD has two additional tracks (When I Needed You + River Deep, Mountain High).
Bought this at time of release, it's good but it has dated especially some of the more Kate Bush indebted tracks i.e. (Weight of the World, Witch in the Ditch etc etc).
Definitely has a unique sound. Chains and Respect are the best tracks.
