Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.2/100, a mean average of 78.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.1.

Good voice, nice vibe, not my type of music.
I don't like it. melodramatic with average voice
Charming, but a little too soft and slow for my current taste.
78/100
Best tracks: Son of a Preacher Man, Don't Forget About Me, The Windmills of Your Mind, No Easy Way Down, I Can't Make It Alone
Worst track: Just a Little Lovin'
A great release by one of my personal favourite vocalists of the 60s!
Just A Little Lovin' and Son Of A Preacher Man are really good, the rest is solid.
Such an incredible voice, and the songs chosen here assure that it's always on full display. And "Son of a Preacher Man" is an all time great!
Would love ta have Dusty singing the repertoire of Whitney Houston. How would it change the world?
Dusty in Memphis, is one of the most stunningly beautiful records ever made. The choice of material is superb and Dusty is on top form throughout. Just a little lovin', is an excellent way to kick of an album that is full of fantastic songs. So much love, breakfast in bed, windmills of my mind, and, just one smile, are all great, in fact I could mention every song. It's a lovely album, an all time classic.
I'm surprised the rave reviews aren't pouring in for this truly great album. I cannot praise it highly enough - I've placed it at No.3 in my overall chart, No.2 in my decade chart and No.1 in my year chart; and would certainly rate it my favourite soul album, notwithstanding the greatness of Aretha, Otis, Marvin, Stevie, Al and the rest. A consummate, heavenly work from beginning to end. And to think that she was too scared to go to Memphis and do the vocals!
Surprisingly incredible album! 'Son of a Preacher Man' can never be played only once.
