Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.6/100, a mean average of 77.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.9.

Mother Sky is fantastic. This is definitely a turning point for them, from being a good band to a behemoth of music.

Not their best recordings but a decent stepping stone to their great period to come. It's not a real album, more a compilation, and that's why it's a little uneven. Still good but not quite the greatness of their next handful of releases.

A transitional album from the Malcolm Mooney era to the Damo Suzuki era, and a pretty underrated album in the group's discography. Even if I can't stand "Soul Desert", the rest is perfect and Suzuki slips perfectly into the singer role from day 1. Of course not as good as the three classic albums that were to follow, but better than their debut, Monster Movie.

A fantastic Can album. Hints at their famous signature style which would come in the next few years

A step down from their great debut, this album feels like a bit of a mixed bag, but it's still a very good piece of work. Even when the album feels a bit conflicted and incohesive, brilliant tracks like "Mother Sky" take centre-stage and thoroughly impress the listener.

With new frontman Damo Suzuki, the band were about to create brilliant works of art, and that glowing track "Mother Sky" was only a taste of what was coming.

Mother Sky is the key track here, and you shouldn't miss it if you like Can's next three albums. Sometimes I think it's the best Can track EVER.

A kind of compilation album from a seminal group.
