Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. This definitely grew on me, first side of the album is definitely better than the second (not too keen on the end of the album). Loving his lyrics:
"Have you heard my guitar singing?
As it rises from the earth
And the company it's bringing
Is beautiful and nothing worse"
An impressive album. Morby is a skillful songwriter with strong melodic sensibilities. The arrangements are warm and add colour where needed. Some tunes like "destroyer" and "black flowers" are nicely infectious. Overall the album is a little short on excitement or a really strong sense of identity: Morby sounds uncannily like a late 60s Dylan. Still, it's an enjoyable album for fans of tuneful singer-songwriters.
