Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.1/100, a mean average of 76.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.6.

The Jayhawks have made some fine albums but this is the best and in my top 30 of all time. an absolute classic.
After "No Depression" by Uncle Tupelo, this was the most important Alt Country recording released at the time and superior to Uncle Tupelo's March 16-20, 1992 of the the same year which oftentimes sounded like a bunch of college students trying to channel their inner Woody Guthrie.
Instead we're treated to the sweet spot of Power Pop & Alt Country which The Jayhawks would continue to mine with titillating results for the rest of their career. Bit this is one of their highlights, and THE most important alt country album of 1992!
Essential.
File Under: Alt Country Essentials.
My favorite record overall by The Jayhawks. Not a poor tune here to these ears. "Two Angels" is my favorite track "Clouds", "Waiting In The Wings" "Witchita". I don't ever skip tracks on this album. The harmonies of the 2 singers just work well together. I listen to this one regularly. MEZ
great record by another great minnesota artist. reminds me of the late 90s and being in college.
An excellent record. Great tunes of an alt-country vein, but rock and roll. The Louris-Olson harmonies are wonderful. Recommended.
