Top 100 Music Albums of the 1960s by

This was a great decade for music although it was dominated with music from the mid/late sixties with great albums from The Beatles, Stones & Bob Dylan. Many iconic bands were formed during this period and there was a big breakthrough for soul/ RnB albums with the labels Atlantic, Stax and Motown leading the way. I like all types of music no matter who was responsible and I did not include any "Best Of" albums that I included in my year charts.

The best Bob Dylan album not a bad track here. It hasn't aged that much either some of the songs are classics Like A Rolling Stone, Tomb Stone Blues & Ballad Of a Thin Man being examples. This is the album Dylan first went electric with and it was a big departure at the time and didn't please all his fans but over the years he has been proven right it was the right way to proceed, the final track Desolation Row is acoustic. The album has so many good tracks it is hard to single out any but my personal favourites are Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues & Tomb Stone Blues.

An album that sounds as good today as when it was released. It is however not their best album Abbey Road is a better all round album. It has a great mixture of styles and contains the best Beatles song of all time A Day In The Life. I don't get Within Without You & Lucy in The Sky doesn't really work for me either. A good album but not their best.

A great Beatles album one of their best. I still prefer Abbey Road & the "White Album". The big disappointment on Revolver is Love You To I want to like it but it doesn't work for me and sounds out of place amongst so many other great tracks - Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine, For No One, And Your Bird Can Sing, Got To Get You Into My Life & Good Day Sunshine. Don't get me wrong it's a great album it's just not their best.

A great double album and one of his best albums from the 60's. Rainy Day Women, One Of Us Must Know, I Want You, Temporary Like Achilles & 4th Time Around stand out for me but by far the best tracks are Just Like A Woman and the sprawling Sad Eyed Lady ..... a brilliant album.

This is as the title says Nina & her piano. A clever choice of songs all tracks are 80/100 or more. The atmosphere created by Nina & the piano is amazing she really is on top form. Her version of Everyone's Gone To The Moon takes the song in a completely different direction as does her whispering voice on the Desperate Ones. Compensation, Who Am I, Another Spring and Nobody's Fault But Mine are brilliant but thee outstanding tracks here are I Think It's Gonna Rain Today & Seems I'm Never Tired Lovin' You, Nina takes these two songs and makes them hers.

Led Zeppelin 1, their debut is more a blues album than a rock album with blues tracks. I love side 1 (Tracks1-4) and How Many more Times not as keen on the rest of side 2 but just my preference, although the remaining tracks are good they are not up there with the quality of the first 4 songs.

Nice chart with good coverage of the decade. I agree that the decade didn't truly kick off with great albums until 1963.
Nice to see Laura Nyro in there (twice)! ~ but surprised to see CSN a lot lower than I think they deserve, given the quality of the album.
I agree with a previous comment that Cream deserve a place in the top 100 of the 60's and we could quibble over artists like Blind Faith, Iron Butterfly, Blood Sweat & Tears.

Sweet 60s chart! 44 albums in common. Good to see the Rod Stewart album or as it was called in the UK An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down. Good diversity of music. I think you have good taste man.

You seem to be the soul representative of BEA.
There sure is a lack of good soul music on BEA, but I´m not fully satisfied with your chart - a bit too many classics and too many albums of your top4 - no real surprises.
