Thanks for checking out my chart! BEA is a godsend of a website for me and has been for close to a decade now. I’ve spent countless hours of my free time here organizing my thoughts and checking out music that’s new to me. Very much in the same way listening to albums is respite for me, ranking them and arranging my thoughts is just the same.
Here you'll find some of that taking shape. My Top 100 will always be a work in progress, as I imagine anyone's would. But here's a couple things you'll find with my chart in particular:

----Being a drummer for going on 15 years, here you'll find the drummer(s) who played on each of my top 100 records to give a some due credit or to shoutout a hero.

**Largely Instrumental**
A perfect mix of blues, rock, funk and jazz. Certainly one of Jeff Beck's best albums and one of the finest examples of the fusion era with amazing grooves, hooks, and melodies. To me, these performances are a world away from his first blues rock offerings.
Blow By Blow was one of those game changing records for me as a young drummer, and of course I still draw inspiration from it today. Really, a great listen and a lot of fun every time.

A powerhouse. A staple in heavy music. An essential. A nearly flawless masterpiece. The first two and last two tracks alone make this a candidate for greatest metal album ever. If Bruce Dickinson's vocals were ever stronger and basically more perfect than on this one, I must not have the album.
Like so much of the first batch of Iron Maiden records, the playing and the music is phenomenal, but the vocals and lyrics are what make this a truly immersive album to delve in to, and one I never tire of returning to. Listen to the story telling on a song like Rime of the Ancient Mariner or the album's title track. Putting on this album is like opening a great book, and the book of Powerslave is one not just of song and scripture, but one of personal power. Magical memories surround this album so strongly for me that it's as if I'm a character in its story.

This album came to me at a very important time in my life. It was late Summer of 2011, I felt empty, I needed a change. I found Wasting Light used at FYE, decided to pick it up, gave it a spin, and my life changed for the better.

Death. Fucking. Grips.
One of the most exciting and groundbreaking groups today. Their music is truly an anomaly. I'm not trying to be a hyperbolic trashposter but man, Death Grips is good. Death Grips is refreshing. Death Grips is a culmination of so many authentic emotions and styles blended into a mixed drink of media that will fuck you up real quick.
The Money Store is one of those once or twice in a generation type albums. Through the years, I’ve exposed myself to some music out of my preconceived and ever-changing comfort zone that to this day doesn’t really click with me, and although it's abrasive, brash, anxiety-ridden, fear-driven, and completely glitchy, The Money Store connected with me on first listen. Each track offers something different than the last, be it totally or with subtlety, but they all play a part in the immaculate flow of the record. The beautifully cacophonous layers of production, Zach Hill's monster drumming, and of course Ride's behemoth-breath bars make The Money Store a modern day classic.
Yes yes, Fantano gave this album a 10, and Death Grips is a meme. So fucking what. This is an album everyone should hear.

Many argue what Prince's finest work is. There are a number of worthy choices, but mine has always been Purple Rain. It's a story, and I love stories.. as you can see by a number of choices on this chart. From beginning to end, this album almost has a Sgt Pepper type flow to it. Also, Prince really shows how great of a guitar player and composer he really is with this album. Take it in, everyone, take it in.
Updating this section a couple weeks after his death, I've realized just how great this record is. This album is truly a landmark in production, concept, and musicality. I've come to appreciate almost every moment of it including moments I wasn't so crazy about before such as Take Me With You and Baby I'm a Star. God damn it the man could write and play and sing and dance and be a fucking icon. Rest in Purple, Prince.

Peter Gabriel was a genius long before this album. Probably around the time that he dressed up in a red dress and fox head in Dublin, 1972 while fronting the legendary prog outfit, Genesis. 14 years and a band split later, this album merely cements his status as one of the most brilliant and interesting artists, composers, and multi-instrumentalists if the last 50 years.
'So' is such a tasteful blend of pop, rock, new wave, and world music, which is one of the album’s many strengths as far as it’s replay-ability and vitality as a classic album.
Even as drenched in 80’s culture and clamor as the album is, I only feel more connected to So as time goes on. There’s still so much fun to be had with these songs and so many generally marvelous moments across its runtime that I can’t help but officially call So an album that is aging well, not just a nostalgic 80’s favorite.
With lush arrangements ranging from glittery and billowy to murky and brooding, So is absolutely, and without a shadow of a doubt, one of the very best albums of the 1980’s.

The Low End Theory is what happens when youth meets maturity, the past meets the present, and potential meets the pavement. From the jump, this record is such an iconic listen.
The first notes of TLET feature a sample from the god Ron Carter on standup bass. It’s dark and moving and slightly mysterious giving way to a legendary Q-Tip monologue and one of my favorite intro stanzas ever. As the album goes on, the best of both Tribe worlds come clashing as the record marvelously sequences Tip and Phife in a way that neither of the main MC’s voices or lyrical approaches get old.
I adore the feel and the vibe of this record, with the excellent jazz sampling The Low End Theory feels vintage but excitingly new every time. So many quotables, so many great verses including some legendary features, such a great listen from beginning to end.

While not my absolute favorite from the Fab 4, it's essentially as close to perfection as a rock record has achieved in the genre's history. The Beatles pushed a lot of boundaries here and really influenced everyone, themselves included, in terms of songwriting and production.
Every song on here is great, and makes for a pretty perfect listening experience. Eleanor Rigby is one of the finest tracks I've ever heard. I remember hearing it on the radio long before ever giving a crap about The Beatles and trying to keep my jaw off the floor. Chilling. It also shows Paul's genius as a writer and narrator.

One of the more recent additions to this chart, Toxicity is a masterpiece. A brutally honest and captivating look at America and the world unbelievably in a pre-9/11 landscape. SPIN magazine called Toxicity "The Music of Now" as they named it album of the year in late 2001. How appropriate.
Toxicity is an album that doesn't let up. It doesn't stop being abrasive, quirky, or beautifully heavy for the entirety of it's 14 track runlength. This is a band in their prime firing on all cylinders performing not because it's what they want to do, but because they absolutely have to deliver their message through this powerful music. The band (and presumably Rick Rubin) expertly sequenced this record. Daron and Serj made a hell of a harmony duo.

I discovered Nick Cave during the COVID-19 lockdown of all possible times. Cave’s cathartic songwriting and haunted vocals spoke to me because well, they’re excellent, yes, but also because his music just fit the upside-down world we found ourselves in at the time with such eerie perfection.
I listened through his entire Bad Seeds discography in a short period of time and it all lead to this, a live album.. to no one. A performance captured to document, as the record’s liner notes describe, the “unprecedented times” we inhabited. And it’s so fitting as, again, that’s what Cave’s music feels like. A night terror/dreamwork of a play unfolding for your ears that finds its cast taking a perpetual bow to nobody in a chilly, cobwebbed theater.
Many of Nick’s best songs are part of this performance and even then I feel like a couple of them are the definitive versions. Namely, The Mercy Seat. Those unfamiliar may not have guessed that the original was the brutally awesome, frenetic, near-noise rock Tender Prey version. Here, Cave’s performance builds and builds and builds and the piano is the perfect instrumental conduit for the fears and fatalities packed into the song and its lyrics.
Elsewhere on the album, Into My Arms is phenomenal as expected, same with Are You The One I’ve Been Waiting For, The Ship Song, Galleon Ship, and one of the greatest sets of lyrics I’ve ever heard, Palaces of Montezuma.
Simply put, if you like.. well.. songs. You *must* listen to this record.

A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Fascinating chart. Enjoyed the intro & album commentary ~ and appreciate the effort required to put the chart together. The chart is far too US-centric for my tastes - but I respect your choices, however they fall. Interestingly, you have Born To Run at #2 & I have it at #3; and the line you quote from the album is also my favourite line ~ so we have that and another 9 albums in common.

i have to give your chart a 100, excellent albums you choose, steview wonder along with prince and bowie are for me top 3 solo artists ever, if you count jazz then is bowie, miles davis, stevie and prince

Hey man, I've come back to your chart - somehow on a first glance I gave it a 95, but it easily deserves a 100. This is the best chart I have read. Love your work - many similar tastes to mine, and the descriptions and stories within are awesome. From a bass player to a drummer - rock on dude!

The chart is yet again in transition mode (as always, but now moreso than in a while). Been taking in a lot of music new to me, a lot of music that I'm loving and resonating with. The chart will slowly but surely show that and the specific examples of what I'm talking about.
Just wanted to reach out to everybody who has given me high scores recently, it's always cool to see that every once in a while. However, there's more additions to include, more rearranging to be done, and much better descriptions. I've been feeling very motivated recently.
And look at that.. only 435 chart versions in....
