Top 100 Music Albums of the 1970s by AAL2014

I view the 1970's as popular music's finest decade. There are great acts that spawned in the 60's, 80's, 90's, and 00's of course, but pound for pound, year after year, album after album, looking at the output from the 1970's makes me feel nostalgic even though I wasn't around.

The quiet one’s grand unloading of genius and blissful spirit music. All Things Must Pass covers so much interesting musical ground over its mammoth run time and just about every second is worth fawning over. [First added to this chart: 08/01/2020]

Not quite as favored for me as Foxtrot, but the peaks of this record are some of the finest in the genre and best of the 70’s. See Dancing with the Moonlit Knight, Firth of Fifth, and The Cinema Show (featuring some striking lyrics). [First added to this chart: 07/16/2015]

Simply put, La Villa Strangiato is one of my very very favorite songs ever. It inspired me as a drummer and still does. The opening 20 minute monster is no joke itself. Rush, my favorite band, truly and with impact, find their way and begin one of my favorite album streaks of all time (‘78-84). [First added to this chart: 07/16/2015]

(‘) has been one of my favorite albums for such a long time. I’m sucked in for the effortless listen every time as Zappa and company weave their way through a concept truly as Zappa-y as one can get. [First added to this chart: 04/20/2020]

Where the fuck has THIS been all my Zappa loving life? In a catalog so deep, the riches are plenty. This maybe the most impressive Zappa record compositionally. [First added to this chart: 04/08/2021]

Ram is absolutely adorable to be frank with you. I’m floored by this album’s track list and its flow. McCartney’s genius as a player and producer may not have ever been more prevalent. [First added to this chart: 11/22/2021]

Disc 1 might be the greatest disc of a double album ever. Some gripping and foreboding classics here and it’s also when Zeppelin got "funk" music right. [First added to this chart: 07/16/2015]

AAL, Blood on the tracks, Made in japan, and most of your 41-50 were the new listens. Thanks for the welcome, still getting used to posting in forums and what not

jdenny, thanks for your comments and ratings on these charts. I actually haven't touched this chart in over a year, maybe longer. Although the albums closer to the top would probably remain the same or close to it, there's a lot of work to be done yet with this chart.

Inner Mounting Flame will definitely be here when I get around to updating it. I had yet to even listen to it when I compiled this chart initially.

May I ask what future listens you took from this?

Solid list. Definitely gave me a couple ideas for future listens. Definitely would've chosen Inner mounting flame over birds of fire
