With Blood Bitch, Jenny Hval triumphantly continues her history of making men feel uncomfortable. While Jenny herself claims the album is about vampires, it also evokes the experience of womanhood - primarily through the context of menstruation. [First added to this chart: 12/11/2016]

"My daddy was the shit back in '84."

This was another big surpriser for me. There's really only one word that comes to mind when I think of this record, and it sort of pains me to admit it. That word is "swag." Kamaiyah is the absolute definition of swag, and it should come as no surprise that she takes cues from '90s artists such as Missy Elliott and Aaliyah.

Whether you judge this album by Kamaiyah's self-proclaimed sexual prowess or the amount of times she says "Hennessy," there's no doubting her confidence on A Good Night in the Ghetto. The new generation of hip hop heads should be glad to have her.

Damn it feels good to have Weezer back.

There's not a whole lot I have to say here. It's just Weezer doing what they do best (and by that, I mean what they did 20 years ago).

Parquet Courts know how to groove. And while Human Performance is a noisy rock record in the spirit of New York no-wave artists from the '80s, unlike its supposed predecessors, every note sounds deliberate. [First added to this chart: 04/20/2016]

If historians 100 years from now are in need of some point of reference for what was going on in the year 2016, A Tribe Called Quest's We Got it from Here would be a fine place to start. It's a period piece for the now, and more importantly, it was the album present-day America needed. [First added to this chart: 11/29/2016]

"Kill me, Jerusalem."

Puberty 2 is a collection of some of the most sublime melodies and production packed into a half hour's worth of LP. What more can I say? It's simply as gorgeous as they come. Winter may be in full swing, but I'm still considering blasting "Your Best American Girl" with my head out the window doing 90 on the freeway.

"Friends will disappear after they fall in love and get married.
Isn't that shit, like, crazy?"

Few albums connected with me on a personal level this year like Jeff Rosenstock's WORRY. If you're not looking for a dose of reality or a reminder that you have work to do and bills to pay, I'd stay away from this one. However, if you're looking for music that relies heavily on the nostalgia of '90s punk and ska but succeeds at being original, check it out.

To call Brian Eno a legend would be an understatement. Not only has he given us ambient music and revolutionized the recording process, but he also knows how to make albums that become a part of the listener. This is not music, it's an experience - like seeing a meteor shower or having your first kiss. [First added to this chart: 11/17/2016]

I've always thought Donald Glover got the short end of the stick when it came to recognition. He puts his heart and soul into everything he does, and one thing he's never done is stop working. I'll admit, I had much higher hopes for this release based on its singles, but the funk still ain't in short supply. Awaken, My Love! is the record hundreds of would-be crossover rappers wish they could make, and more importantly, it could be a glimpse of what's to come from Camp Gambino in the future.
