No album impressed me in a such intense and long-term way. The collection of songs is varied and yet belonging together. Listening to it is exhaustive, uplifting, inspiring and depressiv. The lyrics are intelligent and full of expression. Though the musical claim is a little bit under TDSOTM this one is more smashing and all-consuming. A total listening-experience from the beginning to the end. And finally there is the best ever performed song on this one: "Comfortably Numb". [First added to this chart: 03/27/2016]

What an unbelievable collection of songs here! It's still inconceivable how ONE BAND could create such an variety of absolutely flawless songs. Every single song is perfect in its special way. One could listen to this without one boring second. And the best Beatles song comes around: "While My Guitar..." [First added to this chart: 03/27/2016]

The best overall musical performance of a band ever. Everything is just perfect. One could listen to it 1000 times and it's not losing a quantum. And "Time" has such an inexplicable greatness - goosebumps all over. [First added to this chart: 03/27/2016]

10 absolutely perfect songs. The lyrics are a little bit ordinary, but I could listen to this one over and over again. It's so floating, relaxing and propulsive. Best songs: "Biological" and "Another day" [First added to this chart: 03/27/2016]

Maybe one of the best record producings of all time. You will probably not recognize Brian Enos influence on this record, but it may not be underestimated. U2 were on the edge to become a huge band and all they needed was a little push in the right direction. Brian felt that and added just a little bit without loosing the core idea of the band. Out came a timeless masterpiece filled with platinum singles and song jewels, you may discover even 20 years later. The best song from U2 is on this record: Running to Stand Still. But I enjoy also Red Hill Mining Town every time I listen to it. [First added to this chart: 03/27/2016]

Ok. Everybody knows that Talk Talk became better and better with the years and most reviewers look onto this record with graceful smile. Some kind of a synth based youthful sin. Not me. I love this record so much. In my eyes it's the best synthpop album ever made.
But how can I...?
Now look, it's quite easy: How do you recognize a real great record? There are 2 or 3 timeless hits on it, still played on the radio 30 or 40 years later. But if you ask reviewers to pick a favourite song, everyone points out on any track - but the hits. And everyone picks 2 different songs. That explanation perfectly fits to this album.
Btw my 2 picks are: The Last Time & It's You.

Hated this one, when I heard it the first time nearly 30 years ago: Witty voices, stupid lyrics and strange people. What the? XO(

And today? Witty voices, stupid lyrics, strange people. Never reached again. :O)

The 4 (resp. 8) songs from Rose Tint My World to the end are the best glamrock-quadruple ever made. (Sorry, David and Marc.)

Smashed into my world like a unexpected hurricane. Everybody was listening to it AND it was just brilliant. The last album I remember, which critics AND masses liked. What a merit! Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 82.7/100, a mean average of 81.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.1/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 13.8.

Nice stuff! I would highly recommend "Hand Cannot Erase" by Steven Wilson. He's a modern prog rocker, with metal tendencies. That album is an anthemic prog-rock masterpeice; it reminds me a lot of the wall in some ways. It might be hard to get into first listen, but I'd give it a couple goes.
