Right up there with anything from The Cure / Echo & The Bunnymen, this is a real hidden gem from the dark decade.
Highly underrated!

Never have so many ideas been crammed into a single album! (20 pop-rock songs in 36 minutes.)

Imagine the second half of Abbey road, only for an entire record. This is absolute proof that low-fi can be as good as anything.

Perhaps the most influential record of the 80s.

Fast, fun, catchy, diverse and of course, LOUD. Everything you'd expect from The Pixies!

This is actually the only album on my entire chart where i love EVERY song.

With their unique blend of folk-punk, there is never a dull moment with the Femmes.

This won't be the most popular choice for a Radiohead album, but on balance i really think it is their best. Not only is it their most consistent, but it's iconic release style means any greatest album chart would be incomplete without it. [First added to this chart: 04/22/2013]

Epitaph, perhaps the most epic song of all time? (And I don't use that word lightly! Really, just wow...) This album could just be epitaph played 4 times and it would make me top 20.

But seriously, i'm not really a huge prog-rock fan but this album really is fantastic.

Rumours is so full of hits that it has to make it to any chart.

The issues the band had at the time must of made this album an incredibly difficult task to record. Had the songwriting not been quite so good, Rumours may not of existed at all!

Although Slanted & Enchanted is often cited as Pavements best work, I think CRCR keeps the same great songwriting and low-fi charm, whist being far more accessible and consistent than their debut. [First added to this chart: 09/03/2013]

Although Pink Moon shows glimmers of happiness, the general theme revolves around a man giving up hope with the world. The first four songs are truly exceptional, and packed into 10 minutes. [First added to this chart: 09/09/2013]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 7% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 88.3/100, a mean average of 88.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 10.3.

We have many albums and artists in common, 11 albums I think. And I have only done a Top 40!
Like to se a real mixture of American and British albums and the odd French one. Want to check out Yankee Hotel Foxtrot by Wilco as have heard a lot of good about it. Good chart!

With 19 albums and 23 artists in common, how could I not be impressed with your chart? But it's the comments that really make it great. I have not heard many of the albums on your chart - using your comments as a guide to which ones I might like. Thanks.

I'm amazed how people can just pick 1 album per act. Great that you have Radiohead, Massive and Love in there as well as we have 12 artists in common. Personally I couldn't help but choose more than 1 album by favourite bands.
