Top 100 Music Albums of the 1990s by jhuik
I always thought this was the decade I truly loved. Many of the top 20 albums here were absolutely worn out in cassette or CD and to me they represent a massive revival of rock and roll. Over 25 make it to my top 100, too, but still there are a bunch of albums here that are derivative and unimaginative. Was this decade a bit frontloaded, then, or am I missing out on more late decade stuff?

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 86.0/100, a mean average of 86.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 86.0/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.9.

Really like the attitude you put forward in your bio as well as in your comments below. Some notes to accompany these albums would be much appreciated, as well as maybe some stuff outside of the English speaking corners of the world? Here's a few from the 90s you might enjoy:
Fishmans - Long Season
Sigur Rós - Ágætis Byrjun
Les Rallizes Dénudés - '77 Live
Pretty sweet picks! I apparently need to check out The Tragically Hip. Had to check this chart out because we have the same number one pick of the 90s. Hard to beat Mellon Collie.
@jackbrown8786 I appreciate your comment! I have not listened to TotD more than once. So it's really not fair for me to even have it on the list. There's only so much time in life, man! The chart is really based, more than anything, on how much I listened to music in the decade about which we are speaking. I will follow up with more listens.
Yes, Siamese Dream is amazing, too. I just never listened to it much then and don't now, because there's just so much music out there.
And Spirit of the West? John Mann is one of the most electric live performers I've ever seen, in person or on video, and the dude is currently dying of early onset Alzheimer's. That has nothing to do with how highly I rate that album, I know. I think that represents how much I loved this band on the whole (one of those stand-in selections I like to indulge in).
Anyway, music is very subjective, as is proven by this chart! I will continue to try to rise above my limitations!
Temple Of The Dog went down 28 places.... I want to rate this 0 just for that but I'm obviously too biased to give it a fair rating.
You gave Temple Of The Dog another listen and decided that 311 and Kid Rock were better. You moved it below Junkhouse and John Melloncamp and some movie soundtrack I never even heard of. Based on everything else you moved it below, I have 0 hopes of that soundtrack actually being better than Temple Of The Dog. I'm not even going to give it a chance. I'm actually angry. Some stranger's "opinion" is angering me.... I'm sure that something is wrong with you, but there's also obviously something wrong with me. What the f&^%?
Is there really somebody out there who not only thinks that Mellon Collie is the best album from the 90's, but that Siamese Dream doesn't even beat Spirit Of The West? How does that even happen? Is this a list or a puzzle? It's not like you threw them up there like that, you actually recently moved Siamese Dream down 3 places below Spirit Of The West. With Mellon Collie at #1. Even if Siamese Dream wasn't The Smashing Pumpkins' best album, it's still pretty close to Mellon Collie. I really don't know how you put so many albums between the 2,but um... wow.
I realy like the passion and love for music here.
Our tastes don't overlap at all. Nope. Not one bit. (37 albums in common -haha). And yes I'd put VS above other pearl jam albums.
More in common(16)than I would have guessed
Nice list
23 albums in common. It's nice to see Our Lady Peace on your charts. Naveed and Clumsy are both awesome albums.
@Schnouttz ...Well, where is this spider land, then? Is it some sort of creepy place where only spiders live? Perhaps it is a weird land of spider people... or just spiders. Perhaps I am just another arachnophobe. It is a very weird place...
