Can you really compile a list of this type, neglect to include Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over Sea and still claim to be a serious music magazine?

Aside from that, it's an okay list. They don't seem to have given much thought to the order though.

Q have a habit of being slow on the uptake as they tend to follow popular trends. They catch up well though and this is a very good chart for highlighting the most culturally significant albums of the 90s (in the UK). Yeah it veers towards the commercial but a lot of influential releases here too.

This list is certainly better than many lists for more modern decades. The usual flaws in magazine lists with so much of a business influence – caught between musical merit and influence and selling product – are nonetheless eerily present in this list. Many awful lo-fi, grunge and Britpop bands whom I would never include in a “best of” list – Beck, Blur, Oasis Nirvana – are present here and cut down the rating a great deal.
