Top 100 Music Albums of the 2000s by Jimmy Dread

Tricky to compile this 2000s chart. Sure there's quite a lot I've forgotten - maybe when I get my brain working I'll realise I've left out the Moldy Peaches or something and rehash this. For the moment however please find below 100 LPs that made the last decade for me - everything from the rebirth of folk and indie pop to an album that took 40 years to make. Comments to come, one album per artist, duplication with overall Top 100 avoided where possible... NOW UPDATED FOR FIRST TIME IN AN AGE... AND STILL STRUGGLING TO WORK OUT IF I'VE MISSED OWT OUT... Jimmy, May 2015

PICK - Swansea. It was Richard in Collector's Records that first exposed me to JN. He once told me that every time he put her music on his customers either walked out in revulsion or lambasted him for his 'shit taste' (must be a Guildford thing). And in this we find her appeal; because, if you GET it, you feel like a member of a very special club. Until you realise that every other JN fan also thinks she's gorgeous and wants to take her out for a brew and an afternoon making daisy chains over the Surrey Downs. PICK - Bros. The McCartney to Avey Tare's Lennon, Noah Lennox is a tremendously gifted songwriter and noisemaker. Merge his ear for melody and harmony with all sorts of loops and odd noises and you've got the blueprint for a masterpiece. Only fitting that me and my old bandmate Rob (who took me along to see my first Animal Collective gig) shared what tantamounted to be some sort of religious experience (and the best gig I've been to for a long while) in Camden at the tail end of 2011. PICK - Brother Sport. One of my happiest memories of recent years was getting my hands on this album for the first time, sticking it on my MP3 player and going out into the garden to dance to it in the dark. I've seen AC more than any other band in the last 10 years, heard Brother Sport for the first time live at least 2 years before they recorded it, followed them down to Eastbourne where they were supported by an African family band where the singers wore gowns made out of what looked like Twister mats, and bored the tits off anyone who dares question me on their artistic merit. Yeah, you could say I'm a fan. [First added to this chart: 04/30/2012]

PICK - Surf's Up. He might be a bit doddery these days (and by all accounts still as mad as a box of frogs), but give Brian his dues; to sum up the courage, let alone the gumption to revisit some of the songs that sent him crackers takes some bollocks. Good job he did - Smile is every bit as beautiful as it deserves to be and - dare I say it - better than the odds 'n' sods Smile boxset released recently. I'm totally smitten with it. PICK - Van Occupanther. Kudos to Midlake for essentially ripping off the beautiful Isle of View by Jimmee Spheeris (see my overall Top 100) and turning it into a quasi-concept album about the old computer game The Yukon Trail. One of those rare albums where the first five tracks could all easily be singles. At least in my little world, where squirrels drop nuts at your back door instead of burying them. PICK - Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me. Still the only band Mr & Mrs noWax have seen together. I am very proud of my wife for coming along to the gig dressed in a polka dot top, opaque tights and Mary Janes. She could have been in the band, if only her ability to remember lyrics and dance moves were any cop. [First added to this chart: 04/30/2012]

PICK - Happyhardcore. Have you ever heard of popping candy? You know, those sweets you put in your gob as a kid and it felt like your mouth was going to explode. This is the sonic equivalent. 3 Welsh girls dizzy on lemonade and Ramones records. I'm on a one man mission to convert the world. [First added to this chart: 04/30/2012]

There is so much on here I have never heard of, but based on the ones I know I love it. I think I'm going to use this list as ideas next time I want some new music. Thanks :)
