Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.3/100, a mean average of 93.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 93.3/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.1.

There's a lot here that I have never heard of, largely music from foreign countries which is often neglected in English-language music communities, and as such I'm sure my lack of familiarity with many of these artists is the same for many others here. As such, this list is incredibly valuable. However, it does lack variety in terms of the decades represented, especially when it comes to the more popular/well-known choices, which are relatively rare and almost exclusively reserved for more classic 20th century artists. I'm also typically against compilations being included, but I'm not sure if they're perhaps more standard in the countries those artists are from. Regardless, this chart is an invaluable addition to this site and it's very nice to see something that's not just a copy/paste of the overall charts.
Geogaddi made the list. That makes me happy. Hope it stays in the long run. If not, it is what it is.
I'll second the "great addition to this site" comment. So many unique, international picks that wouldn't be here otherwise. Thank you.
Some time periods may be neglected, but holy shit this chart's a gold mine. There's so much here I feel the need to just dig down on. If I'd ever run out of good music, or otherwise feel like picking up something new, I now know where to go. What would make this chart perfect would be notes to your favourites, but I see you're busy with much else.
Excellent chart, here. It definitely has a certain energy to it. I really dig Third Ear Band, Matt Elliott, and Terry Callier, as well as the blues inclusions. Some new stuff for me to check out as well!
I have a lot to learn... hehe.
A fantastic addition to this site.
Some great stuff here: Forest, Third ear band, Fairport, Moondog, early Mac, Capt Beefheart etc etc
Really interesting chart – surprised and enjoy seeing Fairport Convention and Third Ear Band most especially. A number of international folk releases I have been wanting to check out or to re-listen to as well.
One relatively “recent” release that I feel you might like is Sky Cries Mary’s 1994 ‘This Timeless Turning‘ – to my mind probably the greatest rock album of the 1990s. It is a remarkable fusion of tribal, electronic and rock elements into probably the “deepest” and most moving sound on record. Also Jan Dukes de Grey’s ‘Mice and Rats in the Loft’ – I heard and liked ‘First Utterance’ but this is better to my ears.

If you love that album, check out the rest of the Congotronics series. The musicians moved to the capital Kinshasa from rural areas, and added pickups to their traditional instruments in order to be heard. It’s a similar story to the creation of other genres. It’s going to be exciting to see where they take their music.
