Post-Punk // Synthpop

Synth-Punk implies the existence of post-synth-punk. This is it. Peter Hook is my favorite bassist, and Age of Consent might just be my favorite song ever. This album walks the line in the history of New Order where they had shifted enough away from Joy Divison to be true post-punk anymore, yet they still hadn't become full-on dance yet. It is the most wonderful mix of both. Also, the cover is just gorgeous.

Won't you please let me go
These words lie inside they hurt me so
And I'm not the kind that likes to tell you
Just what I want to do
I'm not the kind that needs to tell you
Just what you want me to
I saw you this morning
I thought that you might like to know
I received your message in full a few days ago
I understood every word that it said
And now that I've actually heard it
You're going to regret

Hard Bop

Quite possible my favorite Bop album ever. Also quite possibly my favorite Davis Quintet Lineup. Miles, John, Red, Paul and Philly put on quite a stellar performance.

This is In the Flat Field by Bauhaus

Goth-Rock // Post-Punk // Noise

It’s pouring deep into december. You’re walking. Not enough layers on. You forgot an umbrella. The sun is going down. Your apartment isn’t that far, you can see it at the end of the road. The streets are empty. It’s weird to see them this quiet. You don’t know, you can’t hear the man stalking you, just 10 feet behind. The rain is coming down hard today. Maybe even hard enough to hide a small scream.

Bauhaus’s debut album is an animation of omen and haunt. Somehow, this album was created with the purpose intent to horrify the listener. There is no fast, energetic song. The only tastes of passion are the stunning vocal performances and the masterful drumming. In fact, Peter Murphy must have been crazy or very very high on a bad trip while making this album. He howls and and howls on Stigmata Martyr especially, but is doing so on the whole album. The mood on this album is just crafted so perfectly. Every song fits in and makes an impression. Each one is more terrifying than the last.

Your nerves are running high. Rain and wind and voices of the dead are swirling around you in a flat field of mud. You’ll never make it out of here alive. You were certain you lost the guy. You’ve been running for oh so long. The voices whisper in your ears to just let go. Lay on the ground and let the mud pile. You hear footsteps behind you. You swing around, just quick enough to see the face of death before you fall. Fall and fall and fall and fall and fall…..

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 92.6/100, a mean average of 94.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 95.0/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.4.

This must be about the best chart I have ever seen. Its composition is like nothing else I have seen on this site or anywhere else, has some quite good notes (though I will say that they could do more than discuss the best tracks and look at each album’s wider importance) and many very unsual albums. The song list, too, is very good.

fantastic chart.
It starts nicely with some classics, but it shows some pretty unknown and interesting picks besides the mainstream.

Nice chart, as far as 60s/70s-centric charts go, this one is right up my alley. Personally my chart is more slanted towards the recent decades, but this is great.

I'll have to listen to the Philippine albums here

So Time Out is back on! I really like your list still. Good stuff. A little bit too 70s oriented, which is okay since it's such a great decade for music, but I like to see diversity through out the decades and genres. It just shows more of an open mind but eh... I get it. My original list had nearly 40 entries for the 90s lol.
