An unfortunate set of ramblings in an era they weren’t fit for. Some of the material on here is okay, another portion of it is ridiculously cheeseball. Jon Anderson’s vocals don’t do a whole lot for me on this project.

Other than the massive and truly exceptional title-track, this album offers very little that interests me. And I don’t ever need to hear Don Henley trying to sound romantic.. or something.
With this record, it’s apparent to me Eagles were thinking they were working on something bold and saying something profound both lyrically and musically. That’s only a part of what I don’t care for with the album, but it’s a big one.

I was bored to tears listening to this thing. I’ll admit there is a highlight or two (and no, I’m not really talking about the Prince cover), but the rest of the album matches the feeling I get from the name of the album, ponderousness.

To paraphrase the old saying.. It’s better to have made a string of classic albums and then have that streak broken, than to have never made a classic in the first place.
Well, here, Iron Maiden break their incredible album streak in a painful way. I don’t hate every song here, but I don’t really have fun with it either. It just reminds me of the band they were just a couple of years beforehand. [First added to this chart: 11/03/2023]

This one disappointed me a great deal. While What’s the 411? isn’t one of my very favorite albums, I like it a lot and I feel some themes are executed strongly with some great vocals and production.
So for My Life to lack so much in uniqueness and ambition was unfortunate to me. On top of that, the record features some horrible rhymes and lackluster vocal performances given what I know Mary J. is capable of.
