Top 12 Music Albums of the 2020s by Junomoogmello

Unlike my other charts, I don't see many albums being added to this chart. I don't buy many current albums because I honestly feel that musical creativity is dying. Anything I do buy will only be on vinyl because there is no ownership or tactility in downloading music.

Absolutely stunning album with several toes in the progressive camp. An album capable of bringing out goose bumps even on a warm day! Highly recommend to prog lovers. [First added to this chart: 03/26/2022]

This album was my introduction to Coldplay, therefore I am not comparing it to previous work. I really like it and will now work backwards for some of their earlier work. [First added to this chart: 02/04/2023]

This reminds me a bit of At the Edge of Light and I think I may need to listen to both albums back to back to see how close they are. I love the string/pad textures Roger King creates and the subtle introduction of exotic instruments which builds on the atmospheres. I hadn't realised the drum stool is occupied by someone else so it will also be interesting to compare the rhythmic differences between the albums. I will provide a further review when I compare the two. [First added to this chart: 01/22/2022]

Stunning album, spanning Norwegian Folk and dipping several toes in modern prog. Haunting vocal harmonies make this a very different listen for any prog lovers daring to move into quite different territory. [First added to this chart: 07/03/2022]

Hats off to Gary Numan again. He has that talent of producing albums that sound like nobody else, as if his music has been composed in a different galaxy. I really liked the futuristic leanings of Songs From a Savage World and this could almost be part 2 of that epic. The soundscapes he creates musically illustrate the dystopian future. Swirling synth textures, robotic drum beats and driving electric bass lay the foundations for the futuristic vocals. 'I Am Screaming' is a personal favourite. [First added to this chart: 11/11/2023]

All credit to Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, that they can still turn out albums like this some forty years after their heyday is quite an achievement. The album has quite a laid back upbeat feel to it. According to the sleeve notes, most of the instruments were recorded by Charlie Burchill. Berenice (an excellent keyboard player) is featured in photos but gets no mention in sleevenotes. Cherisse only gets a mention on three tracks. So in my mind, this is more a Jim and Charlie album, which is fine, but is does lack the energy of Walk Between Worlds Worlds or Big Music. [First added to this chart: 05/09/2023]

Saw this tour and quickly went out and bought the album on vinyl. Hawkwind (Dave Brock being the only original member) still have it. Some excellent musicianship on this album. [First added to this chart: 11/13/2023]

Great album with a theme running through. You've done it again Anderson, another Concept Album! Music throughout is excellent as expected from Jethro Tull. Voluspo is a great opener with the Norse spoken word. [First added to this chart: 11/12/2023]

I had already made the decision not to buy this, don't really know why as I hadn't heard it. The decision was taken away from me when it was bought for me for a Christmas present. It sounds much more like a SW solo effort and the two misssing members are noticed. It is good but not in the league of previous work in my opinion. Perhaps I need to give it a few more listens...
