Apparently Cuomo had a physical deformity that made one of his legs significantly shorter than the other. He had to break is leg and go through horrible physical therapy in order to extend the leg to be the same size as the other. During this time in his life he was working on Pinkerton.
Learning this made this song so much better. The corny ass lyrics are actually quite beautiful when you think about this little tidbit about his life.
