Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.8/100, a mean average of 77.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.2.

One of the best ever concept albums. And one of his top 3 albums. Great rock tracks along with some of the best atmospheric tunes (Years ago / Steven ) Overall an all time classic.

Just fantastic from start to finish. Highlights include the title track, Only Women Bleed, and the centerpiece, Steven. Also, what's with the 77 rating on Some Folks? Another of the album's top tunes.

Un gran album, temas como Welcome To My Nightmare y Only Women Bleed son fantásticos pero Steven es por mucho una experiencia sin igual, realmente tetrica y una de las mejores canciones que haya escuchado por parte de Alice Cooper

Steven is a listening experience unlike almost anything I've heard before.

This album is great! Alice goes solo and benefits from work by the likes of Tony Levin and Dick Wagner. Some classics, and amazing deep cuts here.

Even when taken out of context, the individual songs here are great. Welcome To My Nightmare and Steven are creepy as hell, Cold Ethyl showcases Alice's morbid sense of humor, some Folks is a bit vaudeville and Department of Youth is a wild fist shaking anthem. No bad songs here at all, and the fact that it's a concept album just adds to the enjoyment.

Alice Cooper's first solo album's a conceptual affair - as decadent as the era in which it was released (so I've heard, anyway) - and if you're looking for one hard rock album to sum up everything wrong and right with rock during the '70s, welcome to my nightmare, indeed. :)

To Alice Cooper's credit, it's extraordinarily listenable, (the only track that didn't really float my boat is called "The Awakening,") and outside of one of the late '60s concept albums by The Kinks, I can't think of a tighter concept album than this.

To the album's detriment, producer Bob Ezrin so thoroughly bloated it with mid-'70s studio trash/camp/glitz - and anyone who's heard "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" will know if they dig that scene, maaaan - that it either takes away from the diverse set of songs, or further endears them to you, depending on whether you take your Alice with a side of ballet dancers, (or for that matter, your Elton in a Donald Duck suit.)

Bottom line: it's a bloated-sounding yet lean (in the best sense) mega-album from a bloated but somehow lean (not in the best sense) era... And I can't help loving it, despite that while listening to it - as Alice himself would later say - "my senses tell me to stop." I feel right at home.

The story of little Steven begins here, a story every Alice Cooper fan must pay attention to. There are great lyrics and fantastic production value and songs that give you something new every time!
Welcome to My Nightmare is much more than an album. It's a journey into a new era not only for Alice Cooper, but for concept albums. This is a must here for any Alice Cooper fan. The ONLY must here album from him because, and this is coming from a big fan of Alice, every other album is garbage compared to THIS!
So listen to Welcome to My Nightmare.
I think you're gonna like it. I think you're gonna feel... you belong...

Ever see the 1975 tv special? I'm still trying to find the songs in it after "Steven."

Best Alice Cooper album. Every track is great. No fillers here. One of the best concept albums ever if you ask me.

This is a classic album still worth a listen. Cold Etyhl is a Cooper classic. The WTMN tour set the standard for most rock theatrical shows that followed. All hard rock fans need this classic in their collection.
