Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.6/100, a mean average of 80.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.1.

The best of the American series with some of Johnny greatest interpretations. The obvious stand out is hurt but there are so many other great recordings with the man comes around, personal Jesus and I hung my head my personal favourites. A must own for any serious americana / country fan
What a voice. Unmistakable. A true legend. Title track has become my new favorite song from him. And what can you say about 'Hurt'. Totally made it his own. A fine album
Pretty well amazing. A genius confronting his mortality head on, through the American songbook. Worth hearing.
A powerful track list here and an influential album in a rather sad way given the shlew of records of artists confronting death that were to come, Blackstar looking at you.
Of course Hurt is fantastic, but versions of When the Man Comes Around, I Hung My Head, Personal Jesus and In My Life remain beautifully fragile and moving too.
Really good album.
Favorites: Hurt, Bridge Over Troubled Water, I Hung My Head, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Personal Jesus, Sam Hall, Desperado
I love this album to death but I rarely listen to it because whenever I do it just ruins my day. This album is the definition of a swansong.
Well what a song to end your career with. We Will miss you, Johnny Cash.
Cash's goodbye to the world. It's a harrowing, sad, and reflective. I will never not be emotional listening to this great album
A brilliant covers album. I prefer Cash's versions of Hurt and Personal Jesus to the originals, and his takes on The Man Comes Around, I Hung My Head and Streets of Late so are all great.
