Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.1/100, a mean average of 70.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.5.

I really dug their 2015 album as Viet Cong however I lost track of this band as a result of their name change from Viet Cong to Preoccupations
So rediscovering this 2018 album in 2020 was a real treat with its retro 80’s synth vibe
If you dig this album and sound try checking out Australian band City Calm Down for a similar experience

The whole album feels like the title; a placeholder, noncommittal.

Matt Flegal's vocal performances here really set this album apart in the post-punk scene. He's got this anxious sense of urgency that really propels the music into this haunting sphere of bizarre dynamics. This album also leans into New Wave territory with some really brilliant and catchy melodies, especially on the singles.
Kind of an album of Depeche Mode B-Sides or ideas that they never took into a recording studio. So retro-80s style and, in the end, it loses its charm and just gets a bit dull.
