Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. They sound like ghosts here, floating memories of a past about to be forgotten forming transient structures of matter. This is enough to sound more alive than most (or maybe all) of the music in this decade of goodbyes. Shall we go singing country songs, you and I while we can...
The perfect album for 2020-21. It is the sound of music being made intimately outside. Destined to be a classic. My favorite album of 2021 so far.
