Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.0/100, a mean average of 78.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.7.

This album misses the mark for me when compared to their truly great albums. It feels a bit more watered down and the songs don't hit as hard. Sonically it does sound a bit simpler as well and like they were trying to become a bit more accessible. However, this does also work in their favour as the songs are a lot more catchy and fun. The choruses are also stronger on this project and there is still a lot to explore instrumentally. The length of the record is nearly perfect as well with it not over staying its welcome by too much. Overall, a very enjoyable album that is a drop down in quality from the groups best releases but is still good.

Marking this as the beginning of their fall might be an obvious, almost cliche statement, but it certainly feels they lost their way, this combination of throwback to their indie roots and appealing to the masses pop left a lot to be desired - especially in comparison to their previous work, otherwise you could judge it as a standalone album and it's more than ok.

I go back and forth between this and the Moon and Antarctica as my favorite Modest Mouse album. This is kind of underrated. Wicked fun.

An AMAZING record. I believe is their best album. Its very commercially viable, which brings a fun and creative side to the standard Modest Mouse brood.

This album actually sounds like they started to stop trying too hard and actually make a solid album with actual songs. Catchiness has always been their strongest suit. Still, sometimes I have the feeling I could just as well switch to Pixies and enjoy the same style by a superior band.

Only found Modest Mouse in 2019 and this is the third album I've heard of them. Consistently good on all the albums but this is shading it for me ahead of The Lonesome Crowded West and The Moon & Antarctica. Some band. And still more albums to come for me. Yum yum

This record would make an awesome psychedelic cartoon, and someone needs to make that happen.
