First part of a three-part archival release series that was set in motion by Wishbone Ash super-fan and radio DJ 'Dr. John' of the USASH fan club, originally released as a fan club album in 1994 before being polished into official re-release via this three-part series in 1998. It's full of previously unreleased demos, live recordings, band interviews, and fan-recorded bootlegs, released here officially with CD sales going to the band in order to 'beat the bootleggers.' Volume 1 chronicles the band's early days, 1970 to 1973, when Ted Turner was one of the primary guitar players. Some neat stuff here, including a wonderful 18-minute performance of Phoenix, never-before-heard live takes of Rock 'N Roll Widow and Sometime World, and the one-and-only bootleg recording of the only-ever-played-live-once L.A. Blues (played at Whiskey A Go Go in 1971), though as one might expect, the quality of this recording is sadly quite poor. Still, a cool addition to the Wishbone Ash catalog for those super-fans like me looking to dig deeper.
