Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.1/100, a mean average of 79.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.4.

Great shoegaze/slowcore album, really atmospheric and beautiful.
my favorite yo la tengo album. a masterpiece!
One of those strange albums that, though I didn't feel any particular song except maybe the second version of Big Day Coming really caught my attention, I quite enjoyed listening to it
75/100 (Above Average)
Nowhere near is beautiful
Whether it's the dreamy soundscapes of Big Day Coming & Nowhere Near, the noisy highs on Double Dare, I Was The Fool Beside You For Too Long & From a Motel 6, the intimate, gentle lows on A Worry Thing & The Whole of Law or that mother of a closer, there's something masterful about this album. It's easily my favourite of 1993, their discography and the shoegaze style too but it may even be my favourite album *period* (it definitely makes the top 3).
Very good album! Love the dreamy songs on here like "Big Day Coming" and "Nowhere Near".
Favorite tracks: Big Day Coming (1st one), Nowhere Near, The Whole of the Law

Spending the last days of Summer vacation with your significant other and have some wholehearted fun together and jam until the sun goes down. The day ends at your place, with your partner asleep snuggling up beside you. This day couldn't get any more perfect.
This is going to become a serious favorite of mine. I'm in love with this already.
A strikingly more subdued release than their previous record, Painful finds Yo La Tengo hitting their stride. The songs here may feature less noise freakouts than earlier YLT albums, but the band's quintessential elements are all here: Ira's compelling guitars, James' droning bass, Georgia's earthy drumming, and of course... the magical songs. A welcoming mix of rockers and ballads, the band continues the format they began with May I Sing With Me and carry on perfecting it. Standout tracks include "Nowhere Near" and "From a Motel 6".
Probably their first truly great album. A nice mix of everything they are best at.
