Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 15% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.5/100, a mean average of 74.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.8.

" It's not because I'm dirty/It's not because I'm clean/It's not because I kiss the boys behind the magazines..."
Spectacular debut.
One of the greatest debut albums, albums of the '70's, hell, all time. Adore it.
A totally underrated album. Rickie Lee Jones' debut record is a wonderfully inventive and original LP. There are wonderful songs here in, easy money, last chance Texaco, and, Coolsville. Hints of her then boyfriend Tom Waits here, especially lyrically, and mutual friend Chuck E Weiss is celebrated in, Chuck E's in love, which was a massive hit in the states. Rickie Lee Jones is vastly underrated, if you don't know this album, check it out.
I love this album one of the best debut albums of all time. Apart from Chuck E's In Love the album is full of great observations of love & life including Young Blood, Last Chance Texaco, Danny's All Star Joint and Company. Her voice has a jazzy rock appeal, She reminds me of Tom Waits, emotional yet sometimes funny. This is still one of my favourite albums of all time it has never aged.
love RLJ, this was her first album and even in 1979, "Chuck E's..." was a top 10 hit on top 40 radio...I like most of her albums, fav songs are "We belong together", 'last chance Texaco", "Jukebox fury", "Living it up", "Chuck E's in love"
'Rickie Lee Jones' is a bold dissection of the moral landscape of the US fluctuating between physical and spiritual sobriety and intoxication. Jones is both visionary and romantic while singing about the alienated and neurotic life in the city. Meanwhile, the backing band tinged her ballads with nocturnal rhythm'n'blues and jazz, coining an intellectual variant of late-hours lounge-music.
