Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 8% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 77.7/100, a mean average of 78.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.4/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 11.0.

Inconsistent. HUGE talent in this band, and they connected on some epic tracks. However, they never pulled it together on one cohesive album, and they all went on to much bigger things. One wonders - what would this band have been like if they had stayed together and had time to mature?
Although only a functioning band for two years and three albums Buffalo Springfield were as influential as the Byrds in bringing about the genesis of ‘Country rock’.
With Stills, Young and Furay the band were blessed with a trio of brilliant songwriters and guitarists. Add Dewey Martin’s vocals skills and the options for complex harmonies were endless.
During their short time together the band were often in conflict with Stills and Young being particularly ‘competitive’ whilst at the same time pushing each other to new levels musically. Their second album was never released and Palmer, the bassist, was deported back to Canada. Nevertheless they managed to produce some of the best music of the late sixties with strong songs, thought provoking lyrics, great playing and superb harmonies. In addition they had a reputation for being a great live act with Neil Young particularly animated.
The variety of styles that could be found on a single album was huge, pure country, heavy rock; gentle ballads and pure pop could all be heard in the space of four tracks. For all their undoubted brilliance none of their albums made the top 40 but their legacy far outweighs the importance of commercial success
