Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 1% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 84.9/100, a mean average of 83.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 85.5/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 16.3.

Nick Cave has the best stage presence I’ve seen. He’s the conductor of all your darkest dreams and he’s the seduction of all your deepest longings. The stage presence of a wizard oracle .
I'm in my 50's now and consider myself a connoisseur of music somewhat after decades of intense research and exposure. At this point, I truly believe that NCATBS is my very favorite artist.
Only getting a real listen to him. I felt I would like him and Boatman's Call is confirming that. I like his deep voice and delivery. Look forward to catching more of him in the future
Currently going through all of their albums. Nick Cave is an absolute national treasure, quite possibly our finest musical artist ever. That he is ranked lower than AC/DC on this site is a travesty. He's made some of the most emotionally potent music of the last 40 years, certainly, and is a spectacular lyricist. All credit to the other Bad Seeds as well, who helped craft the perfect sonic backdrop for Cave's oft-deranged tales of sex, love and murder.
I tend to consider genius to be erratic in quality, so perhaps Cave is not a genius. But his band certainly deserves to be higher ranked here, particularly given the insane level of consistency he has maintained across his career.
It's quite shameful that this band isn't on the website's official top 20, because their discography is so goddamn consistent! With a charming voice and great musicianship, Nick Cave has been able to maintain a streak of high quality records over the years, while most other artists only have significant critical success early on in their career. The band's music ranges from energetic (Let Love In, Tender Prey), to romantic (No More Shall We Part, The Boatman's Call), depressing (Skeleton Tree), and even a neat double album (Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus). He's also the best when it comes to writing gorgeous love songs like "Breathless", "Into My Arms", "Lucy", "Straight to You" and "The Ship Song". Overall, this artist sits very high on my personal list, and I'm really looking forward to more exciting releases in the near future.
UNDERRATED, I have nothing else to say
Simply the best, and no one is really all that close. Three years from first discovering them and I still feel like they're the freshest thing ever. While it's easy to pick a favorite album or song it's even easier for both to change on a regular basis. Maybe it's not for everyone but it is so very much for me personally that I can't even comprehend why anyone wouldn't love Nick.
The only artist I know of to put out great albums every decade for four consecutive decades. Tender Prey in the 80s, Let Love In in the 90s, Abattoir Blues in the 2000s, Skeleton Tree in the 10s. This guy is pretty extraordinary.
I'm so disappointing in this site for not having a single one of his albums in even the top 300. I've also got to say, how is The Boatman's Call ranked as his best album? How is Tender Prey all the way down at 9? How is Murder Ballads above Let Love In? How does Henry's Dream not even make top 10? How does Skeleton Tree have the highest average rating? What were you guys thinking when you rated these albums? I mean, every one of them is great, the guy couldn't write a bad song if he tried, but this order really baffles me.
Probably the artist with most equally brilliant albums. Can't decide on my favourites, and pointing out his "best" or "most popular" or "most important" album is impossible.
