Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. My personal 'Broken Bells' ranking albums :
1- Broken Bells (2010) => 75.00
2- After The Disco (2014) => 73.2
3- Into The Blue (2022) => 70.6
‘The High Road’ (2010), ‘Your Head is On Fire’ (2010) and ‘Perfect World’ (2014) are very good songs and my favorite tracks.

Really enjoy their first album, their second I found dull for the most part. I'm a huge Shins fan though, and it's cool to hear James Mercer experiment with some new sounds and production approaches which then bled into his Shins music - first in Port of Morrow, which is a pretty weak record, and then the fun-if-flawed Heartworms/Worm's Heart project.
Collaboration between Danger Mouse and James Mercer from the Shins, their first effort is an effortlessly good mix of op, rock and alternative songs. Really worth a listen. Looking forward to the second album which is currently being worked on.
