Todd Rundgren emerged from this short-lived, sporadically great but undisciplined band from the late sixties. With their considerable musicianship and ability to write great rock and roll hooks, if they had reigned in their tendency toward rambling jams and focused more on the songs, they would have, even in the space of just three albums (one released post-breakup) become one of the great bands of the era. Who knows, maybe they were at that. Not many bands had a song written about them—let alone a great one like the Yardbirds’ “The Nazz Are Blue.”
