Baroque: 1600-1750 by RoundTheBend
***Only intended as a listening list for Baroque: 1600-1750***
If it ain't Baroque, don't fix it. (worst joke ever)
Also I decided to go in descending order cause peeps don't really care about early baroque... mostly.
I have spots available for your recs and am happy to compare other recordings you really like instead.
Not sure if I want to dig much further into this period. 100 albums suffice for now, unless of course I'm missing something AMAZING.
If I follow this listening guide, I'll need at least 2 lists (211 Albums, and now more with more sources). I want to do a good survey of more than what I already know, but 150 years of music is a lot to go through...

I chose this recording because it felt exactly what it should be, celebration music.

I know everyone loves Mr. Gould. Somehow I don't, and this was meant for harpsichord anyway.

Thanks Jameth! I PMed you, but I have charts for the Early Music (Antiquity through Renaissance), Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods. They are just in order of when they were written (roughly). My diary then assesses them (in the music diary section of this site).
I can’t wait to get around to this chart. It’s a prime example of why I come to this site. I’d like to cull through your pre-Baroque chart first, but I’ll be back.
I didn’t see one...are you going to do a Contemporary chart?
Oh actually I've added it since you recommended it (Pergolesi's since there are many Stabat Maters). While I totally agree with your vibrato comment, I felt the orchestra was better in the recording I chose. Finding the right recording can be tough at times! It totally changes the piece. I still can't agree with which Four Seasons recording I agree with the most: Shaham, Perlman, or Sophie-Mutter.
To answer your question, I think the most accessible pieces from this period are Four Seasons, Bach's Anna Magdalena Notebook collection of "simple" piano works. As well as the Cello Suites I have from Yo-Yo Ma. Also Handel's Water Music selection is pretty accessible. Four Seasons is constantly used as hold music... not sure how much more modern you can get? haha. I suppose accessible really is in direct relation to what you have already become accustom to or what expectations you set.
haha. Awesome, thanks!

A lot of hard work happens in the background to keep BEA running, and it's especially difficult to do this when we can't pay our hosting fees :(
We work very hard to ensure our site is as fast (and FREE!) as possible, and we respect your privacy.
