100 Best Australian Albums by videoheadcleaner

The book was published on 25 October 2010. According to O'Donnell, "It wouldn't be a good list if it didn't polarise people and we hope that this list will. We also hope that it will get people sitting around comparing their favourites and discovering or re-discovering these great albums and others".

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 84.2/100, a mean average of 82.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 82.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 17.5.

Interesting, but only one album from the best band to come from Australia by a long way, Masters Apprentices.
Shocking omission's - A toast to Panama red & Choice cuts, unbelievable.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds should hold down 5 of the top ten spots on this chart they are that good. Picking just 1 in the top 80 is laughable.

This is a great list, and a great chart! Read the book and wondered if someone else had compiled a chart from it.

Not my list - The Apartments are a non-entity it seems to most people. I think they have had further success overseas than in Australia.
