Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 82.5/100, a mean average of 81.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 82.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.7.

Mickey Melchiondo and Aaron Freeman AKA Gene and Dean Ween are funny guys and it all comes together here on an album so diverse, so weird, so bizarre, so hilarious yet strangely it somehow blends into something incredibly special that words can’t adequately describe why it works. Its worth listening to for “The Blarney Stone” and “Waving My Dick In The Wind” on their own

Whatever they were on whilst making ‘Mollusk’ I wouldn’t mind trying some

I was expecting more from this record than what I got. It never really found a way to captivate me with some of the songs being to cheesy for my liking. Furthermore, it doesn't feel extremely coherent and each song feels individual rather than a part of a record. This might be one of those records that needs a few listens to truly understand the genius of it but right now I don't see it. It does have its bright spots with some great cuts but overall was disappointing for me.

When I first heard Mutilated Lips I thought it was pretty much the most badass song ever written.

The Mollusk is like a more mature (immature sometimes) version of Flood by They Might Be Giants, lyrically and stylistically. Nothing short of fantastic.

Strange, playful, raucous, hypnotic, surreal, goofy, inventive, and conceptually coherent. My favorite distillate of the inimitable Ween project.

Ah! The Mollusk ... Hipgnosis has certainly not missed his brilliant cover art where an agglomerate of lobsters and other crustaceans of the abyss mingle in a sub-set of the most refined. The title of the tracks pays tribute to the stoic derision that is the soul of the album, including the bright "Waving my dick in the wind". When I discovered Ween (thanks to this album) I immediately laughed but with several listenings I perceived the genius of the band. In this extraordinary album, each piece is a different style from the others. Thus, Ween blithely passes electronic music, folks ballads disturbed, mystical, or just crazy. "The Mollusk" is a little jewel of humor and music, where the skill of these brilliant Ween is revealed with brilliance.

10/10
