Touareg blues will never go out of style, least of all when it has as much verve as Imarhan do. Lead singer Sadam has been vocal about the importance of making Touareg culture more accessible for the younger generation, a goal that feels neatly accomplished in the rollicking rhythm of tracks like Ehad wa dagh and Zinizjumegh. But perhaps the best attribute of the record is how many different influences – funk, krautrock, White Stripes – are worked in without overwhelming the band’s trademark sound.
