Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.9/100, a mean average of 71.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.0.

It's a decent record, but unfortunately this is pretty much rock bottom in their career. It fares particularly worse after their 21st century triumphs "Confield" and "Draft 7.30". Let's call it their wacky pop record due to the shorter track lengths and how it veers from one genre to another and back again. I'd still recommend it to Autechre fans and those that are discography completionists, but for the rest of you, there are much better records out there from the enigmatic duo.
Messy and unfocused, albeit with moments of glory. That may be the point, and indeed, Autechre have acted nobly since they intentionally put out a load of music in 2008 so the fans can pick and choose what they want (to form their own version of "Quaristice", if you will) but this particular LP is still lacking in quality.
The short runtimes don't bother me at all since Autechre pack so much content into a 2-3 minute track, but I'm convinced the tracks on offer don't come close to the ones housed in their best records (tri repetae, confield and draft 7.30), and funnily enough, this record comes across as even less accessible. Yes, it's a welcome change of direction from the abstract percussion-driven "Untilted", and yes, it's impossible for Autechre to make a bad record, but "Quaristice" feels like a grab-bag of vaporous sketches. One for the hardcore fans and completists.
