“Girl With No Face” is centered on Allie’s performance. She will whip her voice into a frenzy and sell some strange lyrics. “Off With Her Tits” would never work any other way. The 70s /80s elements work best when they are used most aggressively. The exaggerated pieces lend themselves well to Allie’s darker lyrics and frantic singing. “Weird World” is a great example with its switching between post-punk and synthpop and the increased pressure on each chorus. When used more conservatively, it feels a bit goofy. Rather than being striking, it comes off a bit more dated. Even with its slockier moments, the execution is strong enough to keep the album in the green.
