Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 4% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.0/100, a mean average of 77.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.6.

The first solo album I purchased by Steve Hackett was Spectral Mornings, I then worked through later albums and a couple of earlier ones than Spectral Mornings but never went back to the solo beginnings until today. This album is like a bridge between Gabriel Genesis and later solo Hackett. There are hints towards much later staccato type styles like 'The Mechanical Bride' in 'A Tower Struck Down', which is quite a tough listen when compared to the gentler more acoustic sounding pieces like 'Hands of the Priestess Part 2'. As an album, quite a challenging listen. Personally I prefer ''Spectral Mornings' and the more later works.
Decent solo effort from Hackett although it lacks the overall punch of a Genesis album. It's a pleasant record and although it features Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford it certainly feels like a solo effort rather than a group one. Good.
A wonderful solo effort - though to be honest it sounds more like the best Genesis album that never was. 'Shadow of the Hierophant' is the highlight, featuring Mike Oldfield's sister Sally doing a remarkable job on vocals.
It's hard say if this is a solo album of S. Hackett or another Genesis post P. Gabriel era (also P. Collins and M. Rutherford play on this album).
Hacketts first solo album, Hacketts best solo album. Takes the ideas he put in to Genesis that bit further. Lots of great moments but you just can't beat Shadow of the Hierophant.
What a gorgeous album! An excellent way to start of Hackett's solo career with a concept album based on tarot cards. The electric guitars sound awesome, but really this album is about the acoustic guitar, and the flutes. All the songs are great, but the best is "Shadow of the Hierophant" which is really a fantastic melody. This is the prettiest sounding progressive rock album I've ever heard. Brilliant!
