Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 23% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.8/100, a mean average of 72.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.2.

Primer disco de Sting en solitario y segundo de una trilogía fundamental, que comienza con Synchronicity (aún con Police) y finaliza con Nothing Like The Sun.
Ol Gordy managed a good one here even with the inclusion of lame Police cover and the self indulgent title track.
Check out the making of this album in the documentary “Bring On the Night “ easily available on YouTube , wonderful interviews with the band , the man himself and even wifey
Posto che io sopporto poco certe sonorità anni ottanta e pure certe cose dello Sting solista, queste tartarughe blu o tristi non sono poi male. Con "Russians", poi, ci sono cresciuto…
I've always loved this album. It's full of great songs and has a fantastic atmosphere running through it. Some of Sting's greatest post Police songs here. If you love somebody, moon over bourbon street, fortress around your heart, Russians, and, love is the seventh wave, are all great. The rest isn't bad either, including a new of version of Police song, shadows in the rain. Excellent album.
Sting's debut definetly sounds like the 80's. Drenched in every conceivable 80's sound but used in the best way's possible throughout.
This debut is musically complicated and wrought with emotion throughout, Sting tackles injustices like no other.
There isn't a dud song here but I personally love Russians, Moon Over Bourbon Street, Shadows in the Rain
Second best Sting behind Ten Summoners Tales
in 1985 we translated all songs ....
Beautiful songwriting. Classy playing. Sophisticated production - Not as bad, thankfully, as so many overproduced '80's albums. This guy doesn't get much love anymore(probably because he comes across as being a pretentious, tree hugging, tantric sex gloating, ego maniacal beardy bore). But for this album he deserves a little place in every music lover's heart. He probably won't get it, even though this album is better than almost all of the Black Flag, Husker Du, Minutemen, Replacements, and Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel back catalogues put together!

This didn't continue his career in exaactly the same path as the Police but laid the grounwork for a new beginning, less obvioulsy commercial he became his own man. Whilst he came close he was never able to defeat this fine opening effort.
Sting's first, and best, solo record. While I can't imagine The Police performing this material, Sting was still writing very good songs and using this as a platform for his own distinctive sound. His later efforts would be much more MOR, and much less interesting. Best cuts: the bluesy "Consider Me Gone" and "Moon Over Bourbon Street" and the more up-tempo "Fortress" and "Shadows in the Rain" (which is actually better than the Police's version). I like the short, jazzy title track as well.
