Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 69.7/100, a mean average of 67.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 67.3/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 20.1.

They get way more hate than they deserve. I'm obviously biased, since this was the first band that really got me into music, but they are way better than people give them credit for. Sure, there's not much that very musically complex, and most of their songs are just 4 or 5 chords, but they have some absolutely brilliant lyrics: both comedic (i.e. If I Had $1000000, Blame It On Me, A, I Know, Pinch Me) and serious (i.e. Brian Wilson, Everything Old Is New Again, The Old Apartment, Pinch Me, Falling For The First Time). Also, Jim Creeggan, their bassist, is actually pretty great, and has some very intricate basslines. Their stuff from 1991-2001 is their best, especially Gordon, Maybe You Should Drive, and Maroon; not much after 2001 is really worth anyone's time (with a few exceptions: Testing 123, Another Postcard, Easy, Bank Job, Take It Back). I honestly feel that the amount of airplay One Week got is the main thing that gave them their bad reputation. This is all obviously incredibly biased, but whatever, I like them.

Snoop Doggy Dogg: 5thbeatle ain't got no love for The Barenaked Ladies?
Honestly, these guys are good at what they do - cute, clever, simple pop music. Nothing profound. When they try harder, it falls flat. If they stick to catchy, witty pop, they nail it. Not an embarrassment to Canada. Try Bieber, Nickleback, Sum 41, etc...
Embarrassed they're Canadian. No wonder they had to call themselves that, noone would pay attention otherwise.
There are certain bands that seem to be really really good at making hit pop songs, but can't seem to make one solid album that is good from point a to point b if their life depended on it. Barenaked Ladies could be the poster children of this. There are at least 10-12 songs by them that I know by heart and adore, but that's spread out over about six or seven albums. They seem made for Greatest Hits and Live albums, which is fair enough because they have three of those.
