Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 8% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 77.7/100, a mean average of 78.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.8/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 9.4.

Quality artist. Glad to see him getting some well-deserved love on this site.
I've always had a lot of time for Al Stewart. So many excellent songs spread out across a wide number of albums. I've enjoyed seeing him play at the Half Moon Putney and at Croydon. Great guitar work, and very distinctive.
Stewart toured the college circuit and released five albums of typically introspective romantic folk music which showed he was a hugely talented songwriter capable of producing some wonderful romantic and historically inspired lyrics and some great melodies.
Although hugely respected in the UK Stewart never achieved any significant commercial success and, in 1975 left the UK for Los Angeles and CBS for RCA. The change in home and record company brought a change in Stewart’s musical style as he moved away from his acoustic folk style to a slicker mainstream light rock sound under the guidance of producer Alan Parsons. The effect was dramatic with Year of the Cat and Time Passages making the US top ten.
Stewart continues to record and perform into the new Millennium and his crystal clear vocals and intelligent songs from a career spanning over thirty years have ensured that Stewart is one of the most respected and fondly remembered of all British singer songwriters
His music was perfectly suited for 1970s FM radio. It may sound a little dated now...but, then again, he wasn't making music for the 21st century. Enjoy him for his time.
