This album is filled with sweet pop tunes and catchy melodies. From the opening “ba ba ba baaa” of Who Loves The Sun, to the closing chords of Oh! Sweet Nuthin’, the band put barely a note wrong. For me this just pips the more experimental The Velvet Underground & Nico to be the best Velvet Underground album.

The Velvet Underground invented noise in the context of rock, a concept Lou Reed would take to its extreme on his Metal Machine Music. Without this there would be no Jesus & Mary Chain.

I feel like I don't even need to explain this choice. The sound of a group of friends having a great time and producing a stellar album in the process, before the relationship between Doherty and Barat soured.
