Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by josh333

Feel free to leave your opinion. I welcome it warmly. I actually would prefer you leave your thoughts, no matter where they stand. I think music is something that no matter polarizing opinions get- sharing them is an amazing part of the art in general.

Favorite Track: Lets Go Away For A While, God Only Knows

I remember my first listen to this album, i was probably around 7 or so. I didnt really register with me until my adolescence, when i realized the power behind Wilsons song writing and structure. Id be hard pressed to tell you an album that holds deeper sorrow than in these songs, and how in spite of this- its very difficult to not come out of this record smiling. In all honesty, this might be the best break up album of all time.

For example, a track like I'm Waiting for the Day. absolutely powerful and charming, although the lyrics are so painfully honest and represent a sentiment that any heartbreak can hold. Just the sheer power of this record to present sorrow in such a pretty image is one on its own.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 86.3/100, a mean average of 86.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 86.6/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.3.

This is an excellent start--would love to see you continue to expand it! Pet Sounds is a terrific #1, and OK Computer and Sound of Silver are also really strong choices. Looking forward to seeing this chart continue to evolve.
