Top 100 Music Albums of the 1990s by mrmcrook

I realize my chart has a lot of compilations and many people believe compilations shouldn't count. The reason I have included them is so I can add a few bands/artists that have fantastic music and should be recognized. Otherwise the list will be hugely dominated by a dozen bands that everyone knows has a huge number of worthy albums. Hence why the large amount of compilations and live albums.

Any footnotes are just personal ramblings for my own entertainment.
And to remind me of the joy the music brings before all memory is erased.

This took a while before I realized just how fucking brilliant it is. Thought it alright at first but then some years later while listening to it something clicked. It's all due to when the internal frequencies within line up exactly to the external ones around us. Then....BOOM. Musical god is found [First added to this chart: 10/21/2020]

An ex had this on cassette. I listened to it a few times but was still pig headed in my metal phase to fully appreciate it at the time. Forward many years later when I let my tastes expand and I got a copy of my own. They have a sound all of there own and became an all time favorite. Got better every time I heard it and still does to this day. Track list on this is different to the original copy I have ('Choppers,' & 'Mr Moon', both being two of the better songs missing.)
Best tracks: Gaskrankenstation. Donde Esta La Pollo. Million Dollar Dream. Railway Surfing.

Got this as a 2 for 1 package with 'Nothing's Shocking'. Didn't mind it but wasn't gelling with the whole alternative buzz at the time so didn't listen to it much. Fast forward 15 years when I pulled it out for a listen. My tastes had expanded by then and it was like being hit by a bolt of audible lightning. Loved it, couldn't get enough of it and it became one of my favorites and put on high rotation. All hail the Addiction

A magnum opus. This album is full of perfectly constructed tracks which segue brilliantly into each other. A masterpiece in it's own right. [First added to this chart: 10/21/2020]

I'd never even heard of these guys prior to coming onto this site. Being rated so high I gave it a listen on Spotify, thought it was alright and managed to track myself down a copy. It took a few listens before it fully clicked with me as I initially found the vocals a tad grating. Now I find it very addictive and have it on high rotation.
The sequencing and seguing from one song to the next is total perfection. An absolute true gem of an album.

I feel a tad guilty having this so high in my chart. I knew a fair amount of FNM songs but this was the first of their CD's I got. Fantastic compilation. Full of all the gems and more. With them all collected together it makes you realize at just what a fucking great band Faith No More are. [First added to this chart: 10/21/2020]

The interesting thing with this album is that there's nothing that's specifically unique or different than other albums from this genre. Nothing that really sets it apart in some original way.
Yet it's so fucking brilliant. The melody, vocals, song structure of every song on this makes it one of the best albums from this era. Outstanding and it deserves more recognition than it gets.

This just kicks arse. It was about the 7th album from him I got and went to personal favorite of all studio albums from him I've heard. Yet to hear a Nick Cave & Bad Seeds album I didn't like. Brilliant. Just fucking brilliant. [First added to this chart: 09/22/2021]

Great album. Way way better than I was ever expecting. So many top tracks right through, too many to be able to pick a favorite. Which is what makes this an outstanding album. [First added to this chart: 04/25/2021]

This has a fantastic flow. A great balance of the rock element with melody and heavier textures on the slower tunes. A brilliant album right the way through with no weak tracks. Mike Patton is king vocalist. Very pleasantly surprised with this. One I resonated with immediately and always seems to have a calming affect on me. Love it. [First added to this chart: 11/20/2021]

I agree with a lot of what you say. The value of compilations, how good Dopes To Infinty is (even if it is not in my decade chart t hods a respectable position in my yearly chart), and I had the same experience with NMH including first hearing of them through BEA....and I need to get around to a Headless Chickens album - heard a lot of their songs over the years and Gaskrankenstation is an all time favourite

This is a unique and very interesting chart. While I haven't included many compilations or live albums on my own charts, your rationale for doing so makes sense. Lots of stuff here I've never heard before, so I'm looking forward to sampling some of your selections that are less familiar to me, starting with your #1 pick.
